Initial Doodles

First thing I did when I decided to take on this project was to grab a notebook and start doodling and drawing out design ideas.  I went from those drawings to the cardboard mock-up and then to SketchUp.  Below are some of these initial doodles, drawings, and various notes I made.

SketchUp Drawings - 04

I am pretty much done with the design...the major things anyways.  I still have smaller things to work out and will tackle those then the time comes.  The following pictures show it, removing components, from the complete unit down to the play field.

Next I will start making measurements and cutting wood.

SketchUp Drawings - 03

More drawings done.  Still working through the coin slides (when the coins drop off the front and into the coin tray) and need to design, what I call, the front door.  Below are a series of images showing a disassembly.

SketchUp Drawings - 02

I have managed to squeeze in some more time on the cabinet plans.  I now have the side, marquee, and coin drop panels in place.

SketchUp Drawings - 01

I have taken my rough pen-and-paper drawings, combined them with my cardboard mock-up, and started laying everything out in Google SketchUp.  I started with the push platform and then designed the play field around that.  Below is what I have so far.

Things to note:

  • Both the push platform and the play field front edges have slightly raised lips on them.
  • The underside of the push platform shows the slide tape...it is intentionally back 2" from the front edge.
  • The first drawings show the back half of the push platform without guides on either side.  This was corrected in later drawings and is there to help keep the push platform straight in its slot.
